High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE)
Nurturing every student’s potential
At Gledswood Hills Public School, we believe every child has potential waiting to be discovered, developed and celebrated. Our High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) programs support students who demonstrate high performance or the capacity for high performance in one or more areas.
We provide opportunities, experiences, and challenges so all students can stretch their abilities, pursue their passions and achieve personal excellence.
What is High Potential and Gifted Education?
The NSW Department of Education identifies high potential and gifted students as those whose potential is beyond that of students of the same age in:
- Intellectual
- Creative
- Social-emotional
- Physical domains
Some students show advanced ability early; others may develop it over time. Our role is to identify these students and provide learning opportunities that help them thrive.
Our approach at Gledswood Hills Public School
We use a whole-school approach to HPGE:
- Early identification through teacher observation, assessment data, and parent input.
- Differentiated learning in the classroom to match student readiness, interests, and learning pace.
- Enrichment opportunities to extend learning beyond the standard curriculum.
- Wellbeing support to ensure high potential students are challenged while still feeling supported.

- Open-ended learning tasks that encourage creativity and problem-solving
- Extension groups
- Participation in academic competitions
- Creative arts workshops and performances
