Anti-racism action in schools
The Anti-Racism Policy provides the framework for anti-racism education in NSW public schools. Every school is required to have an Anti-Racism Contact Officer who assists the principal in promoting anti-racism education.

Anti-Racism Contact Officers
The NSW Department of Education rejects all forms of racism and is committed to the elimination of racial discrimination.
As part of the Department’s commitment to anti-racism each school has an Anti-Racism Contact Officer (ARCO). The ARCO is a teacher nominated by the principal who assists in leading anti-racism education in the school. The ARCO assists the principal by providing:
• support to build staff understanding of the impact of racism on student learning and wellbeing
• advice to students and staff on how to respond when they see or hear incidents of racism
• advice on what strategies the school can implement to address racism.
The ARCO is trained to provide advice to parents and carers, and teachers and students about the procedure for resolving complaints about racism. If requested, the ARCO can also act as a support person or advocate during the complaint's resolution process.
At Gledswood Hills Public School, our school's ARCOs are Mrs Kirsty Naicker (kirsty.naicker@det.nsw.edu.au) and Mrs Sarah Sinclair (sarah.mulhern@det.nsw.edu.au).
They can be contacted via email or by contacting the school office.
Telephone Interpreter Service
If you need an interpreter to assist you to speak to the ARCO on the telephone or to make an appointment for a meeting with the ARCO, ring the Telephone Interpreter Service on 131 450 and ask for an interpreter in your language. Tell the operator the phone number you would like to ring, and the operator will get an interpreter on the line to help you with your conversation. This service will be free of charge to you.
This information can be found in other languages on the NSW Department of Education’s website.
